Deliverance from sin (sexual habits, smoking, addiction, or any overpowering force etc…)

If you are born of God, you are free; Satan, human beings, and the mere reality of life can try to convince you otherwise. However, you have already been set free (in the past) John 8 :36 “If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.”

If you are not yet bornَ of God, kindly read a small article on the website with the title: ” How to be born of God, know God personally and enter into a relationship with Him? Reading the above-mentioned article is very imperative in order to receive the benefits of the article at hand and see results in your life. It is a set of truths that apply to those who accept Jesus as Savior in their lives and thus becoming truly born of God.

Although sex is not the sole topic of my writing, but rather any form of bondage (such as addiction, sleep, overeating, and\or any overpowering force), I would like to clarify an important point about sex:

Marriage is not a solution or an escape if you are a person who had premarital sexual experiences. Initially, you might think that marriage can satisfy these bodily needs. Yet gradually, you find yourself wanting again improper experiences and behaviors like watching pornography or lusting over the flesh etc… These behaviors should be primarily faced and dealt with in order to have a heavenly blessed marriage. For more on this topic please read: Biblical purposes of marriage.

God is never late in setting you free from any satanic bondage. If you are born of God, you are already free, and all what is needed is to work out your salvation, since God did his part.  Don’t assume that you need any person’s prayer to break free from bondages imposed on you from your past life before you accepted Christ. Definitely not, because Christ offered you salvation in all aspects of your life.  What you actually need is to meditate on His word on the matter.

The Holy Bible provides solutions to all forms of past bondages. These also include addiction, smoking, drugs etc… and you need to be dealing with them in the same Biblical way as you did with lust and pornography.

  • Thought control:

Romans 13 :14 “But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.”

The solution is to acknowledge the freedom that you have in Christ Jesus, control your thoughts, and utilize these thoughts to fortify your spirit and not your body. This starts with meditating on the Word. When you are born of God, you carry inside you spiritual energy inherited from your heavenly father to bring every thought under control. The spirit of power and of love and of a sound mind endwells in you 2 Timothy 1:7. Having a sound mind means having the ability to control thoughts and intelligence. You can steer your own thinking and bring it under the obedience of the Word.

Flee the evil desires in your mind before you flee from the actual act. That is the biblical solution in 2 Timothy 2:21-22. This includes staying away from everything tempting and exciting. Most importantly, as a new believer, quit going to places or watching anything that might stimulate the sexual instinct.

Simply put, to overcome lust is to flee away from it. Do not ponder over images, ideas, and thoughts presented to you. Responding to these thoughts is like holding a high voltage electrical wire that sticks to you. This leads to an endless cycle of lust and self-stimulation leading to sexual addiction.

However, the choice is yours. The choice comes from your own will. Remember, inside you is the power to control thoughts.

2 Timothy 1 :6-7 “(6) Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands. (7) For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”

Use the power that is in you to bring every thought under the obedience of Christ. Your spirit is an extremely fertile ground. Sow in it seeds (thoughts) from the Word of God and never accept improper ones. Reject them! Stay alert!

This explains why the believer falls much more into sin when he submits to it and does it more than the non-believers. Why? Because after being born from God, he became more fertile ground than the non-believer. The fertile ground yields an abundant strong harvest. For that reason, sow only the Word of God in your mind and in your heart. Learn more about this topic in the article:  How to be a good ground.

Proverbs 4:20-23 “My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from thine eyes, keep them in the midst of thine heart. For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh. Keep thy heart with all diligence, for out of it are the issues of life.”

What identifies the fruit you bear in your life is the type of seeds that you sow and not the soil itself. Pay special attention to those seeds!

Thoughts are like seeds. Ignore and reject any non-biblical evil thought. The seed in itself holds the power of bearing not just a tree but a forest. This power whether good or bad remains inactive until the seed is sown in good ground (your heart). You cannot benefit from the Word of God except you sow it in your heart. Simultaneously, no foreign thoughts can control you if you don’t welcome, deliberately mediate, and react to them.

Flee, but flee to…

So, biblically you have to flee from, reject, and never dwell on the evil thought. But what’s next?

Flee to the Word of God! You are the temple of the Holy Spirit who is one with your spirit, therefore his power becomes your power You are already empowered, embrace it! Expand your fellowship with the Holy Spirit. Stir up your spirit and it will easily conquer over your body.

Let the Word be your only reality. See yourself in the Word and make it a priority in your heart and mind. If you have become accustomed to thinking because of experience, widespread scientific information, or what the society say as example: “If you get used to something, you will not be able to give up on it: the cigarette, self-stimulation, or else “. If you look at this topic in that perspective, it will be difficult for you to quit. Familiarize yourself with the Word and let it be your only source of information. And since the Word of God is alive and effective, all you have to do is to apply it personally and implement it daily in the right way. Resist tempting thoughts and walk free in the Spirit because indeed you are free! Do this and the power of God endwelling in you will be released from the inside out. Stir up your spirit by meditating on the Word and speaking in tongues. It is that simple.

  • Awareness of righteousness

The topic of righteousness is your departure point to divine freedom. In short: as a born again, it is not in your nature to produce improper thoughts. They come externally.

Note: “Thoughts being presented to you” means you are not the source of these thoughts. Neither are they from your spirit. Walk in the awareness that you are the righteousness of God through Jesus Christ. It is impossible to have thoughts that contradict your new nature. All things of the past are gone and behold everything is new. For more on this topic please read: You are Righteous & you are the Righteousness of God.

  • Perpetual infilling with the Holy Spitit:

N.B. “Perpetual infilling with the Holy spirit” is an independent extensive article that can be read separately.

Speaking in tongues is fundamental and essential to truly live the freedom that Jesus Christ has given you through salvation. The gift of tongues is in fact vital for stirring up your spirit and receiving all that Christ has offered you personally. Your own spirit knows you and your thoughts more than you know yourself rationally and theoretically. 1 Corinthians 2 clarifies that. So never bind your spirit, but fan into flame the gift of God and speak in tongues. Do it fervently and loudly from the depths of your heart. Truly mean it as if you are understanding what you are saying and direct your feelings and excitement towards that.

James 5 :16 “…The effectual fervent prayer of righteous man availeth much” …

  • Walk in Love (Agape)

Walking in the spirit is walking in love. Galatians 5:13,16 shows how walking in the spirit and walking in love can be used interchangeably.

13: “For brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.”

16: “This I say then, Walk in the Spirit; and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.”

Notice that walking in love goes in 5 different directions: God towards you – you towards God – you towards yourself – you towards loved ones – and you towards the people who has enemity towards you. Love looks at the negative circumstances with faith without the possibility of failure. Love is simply thoughts and not emotions. So, choose to think with love no matter what the situation you are facing. For more on the topic of love please read: How to start and continue a relationship with God.

  • Walk in Faith

Know who you are in Christ, confess it with your tongue, and rebuke any condemnation for it can hinder your faith. This should be the norm in your life. Walk in faith in all matters concerning your freedom, your image, your future, your health and protection etc… Never let condemnation and self blame to even pass through your mind. It starts as a simple innocent thought that eventually deters your faith.

If you sin remember that God is never angry and does not blame you. Your sins have been fully paid for and you have been redeemed. The Father is sad when you don’t take your rightful place in Christ Jesus. He is sad when you declare non-biblical words that snare you like: I don’t understand – I am a sinner – I am impure – I am evil – I cannot – I don’t deserve…

You are one with Christ. What you say about yourself, you are also saying about Him. Declare only what the Word says about you. This is not a lisence to sin. The Holy Spirit taught and warned us not to use this freedom to indulge the flesh in Galatians 5:13. Condemnation is from the devil; in Revelation 12:10 he is called the accuser. Satan accuses you with thoughts that you accept thinking that they can stop you from sinning. On the contrary, these thoughts of blame cripple your faith by which you are supposed to receive your freedom in Christ.

Never forget that the Holy Spirit is the comforter and not the accuser. He never condemns believers. The Holy Bible in John 16:6-8 says “(6) But because I have said these things unto you, sorrow hath filled your heart. (7) Neverthless i tell you the truth; it is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. (8) And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness; and of judgment.”

Keep in mind that the Holy Spirit judges and reproves the world and not the Believer. For the believer, the origin of the word comforter in Greek means: helper, strengthener, standby, counselor, intercessor, advocate; there is no term out of the aforementioned that means your Judge but on the contrary, your Advocate.  This clarifies why you were sinning more whenever you accepted judgment, since it is a direct response to the Devil himself.

If you sin, the Holy Spirit tells you to dust yourself off and remember that you are more than a conqueror. Get up, repent, for you are the righteousness of God. Do not excess in thinking about the sin you made, since it is not in your nature. The Holy Spirit can only encourage you; he never puts you down.

Walking in faith means rejecting any form of judgment and condemnation. Declare who you are in Christ every day and know that as a born again you possess the ability to cut off sin. You cannot be constrained. Just refuse to sin again and walk by faith accordingly. You are a partaker of the divine nature: Romans 6 :12 “Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.”

Notice “let not…” which means it is in your own hands. You don’t need anyone to pray for you. You need this prayer just as a baby in faith. However now, it is expected of you to live the fullness of your faith in Jesus Christ. The freedom is yours, take it!
