“Forasmuch as many have taken in hand to set forth in order a declaration of those things which are most surely believed among us” (Luke 1:1).
Many years ago, as a young guy, I asked myself, what I really believed. I took a pen and paper and listed my convictions regarding Christ and His Kingdom. It is those convictions that have piloted me through life and ministry. Someone has rightly said that those who stand for nothing will fall for anything.
As a child of God, you’ve got to have absolute, non-negotiable convictions that you believe and stand for. A man or woman with convictions is unstoppable. Without clear convictions, you can be beaten. But when you have convictions, nothing and nobody can stop you. To be a Christian without convictions is to be like a jelly-fish. A jellyfish is a light-weighted sea-creature that can’t swim against the tide. Anywhere the water flows, the jellyfish goes. That’s the way some folks are; they go with the tide. Don’t be that way!
Be a man or woman of convictions; let the fundamental principles of God’s kingdom give you a fixed mental attitude that nothing can take away from you. Have something that you stand for; that you’re known for! Once you can clearly express your convictions concerning the Lord and His kingdom, you’ll live a fulfilled life.
When Moses went back to Egypt after eighty years in the wilderness, he didn’t return with an army—he returned with convictions! His absolute convictions about the power of Jehovah protected him from Pharaoh’s rage and caused him to deliver the entire nation of Israel from bondage. I encourage you also to take a pen and paper and list out what you really believe about God and the glorious gospel of Jesus Christ.
Remember, your convictions will determine your pursuits in life; it will determine the friends you keep, the places you go, what you do with your time and what you commit your resources to. If you’re a man or woman with convictions, it doesn’t matter how many times you may fall, you’ll always get up again! Don’t just exist in God’s Kingdom; don’t stand for just anything and merely ‘go with the flow’; be a man or woman of convictions.
Prayer
Dear Father, I thank you for helping me through the Word, to have absolute convictions about the gospel of Jesus Christ, which is your power unto salvation. These convictions grow stronger and stronger daily and become the compelling and motivating force in my life, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
