Doing The Word—The Proof Of Your Love For The Master

“If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed” (John 8:31).

Sometimes, people believe that being close to the Lord is all about locking yourself away from people to pray. Though it’s good to do this from time to time, that’s not what being close to the Lord is all about. Being close to the Master is about paying attention to His Word; esteeming His Word more than your necessary food; being an ardent doer of His Word.

Jesus said in John 14:15, “If you love Me, keep My Word”; that just about says it all. Doing the Word is how you prove your love for Jesus. When you murmur or grumble against the Word, or try to negotiate God’s instructions, you’re not proving your love for the Master. Prove your love for the Master today by doing what His Word says.

For example, Jesus said, “A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another” (John 13:34). Thus, keeping that Word—loving your brothers and sisters in Christ the same way Christ has loved you is proof that you love the Master. In the same way, you won’t try to cheat a fellow believer because you know that’s against what the Word says. You’ll also put pride, bitterness, disobedience, and arrogance far away from you because the Word of God instructs us to do so.

Fan the embers of your love for the Lord today by esteeming His Word, for His Word is life. Be a doer of the Word; that’s how to prove your love for the Master.

Prayer

Dear Father, thank you for making your Word available to me and filling my heart with your love. I greatly esteem your Word, and I prove this today by consciously meditating and walking in it so that my profiting may appear to all unto your glory, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
