Faith Versus Believing

“Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar?” (James 2:19-21)

Faith is not believing and believing is not faith. Faith is believing and corresponding action put together. When you receive God’s Word into your heart and believe what it says, that’s just the first step in the equation—there must be corresponding action to whatever you’ve believed.

For example, the Bible says, “…With the heart man believeth unto righteousness and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation (Romans 10:10). So, when you heard the gospel and you were convicted in your heart to believe Jesus died for you, you were made right with God. But that wouldn’t have gotten you born again—there had to be a corresponding action of confessing the Lordship of Jesus over your life, it is this confession that catapulted you into salvation. No matter how much you may have cried and thanked God for sending His Son to die for you, if you hadn’t taken the step to declare something, you would not have experienced salvation.

This principle is the same for every other aspect of your life as a Christian. You must not stop at merely accepting what the Word says; you must take a step further by making a confession or taking an action. Faith is a leap on the Word of God—it is believing what God’s Word has said concerning anything and acting that way. For the one who was sick, faith will cause him to declare that he was healed by the stripes of Jesus and then begin to move himself, even if slowly at first. For faith to be faith, and not just believing it’s got to have some action to it.

Confession

I believe and endorse what the Word of God says about me, and I speak and act in consonance with the Word today. I act my faith in every situation and circumstance of life, irrespective of the contrary winds that blow against me, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
