This is my rest for ever: here will I dwell; for I have desired it (Psalm 132:14).
Hebrews 4:3 says: For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world. This is very powerful and touching. God finished all His works from the foundation of the world and He’s at rest. He’s not working or creating new things today nor is He modifying that which He already made. He’s in absolute rest, not busy fixing things and trying to make them work.
The good news is, this is the kind of life He has given us—a life of rest, where we don’t struggle for anything. You’ve been called into God’s rest. Remember, God made man on the sixth day of creation and rested on the seventh. Man’s first day on earth was God’s resting day. Have you ever asked why God didn’t make man on the first day when everything was still a chaotic mass, or on the second or third day? It’s because He wanted everything to have been ready when He brought man on the scene.
God’s idea is for you to live in rest everyday of your life. He doesn’t want you struggling or toiling to make ends meet. The Bible says: “There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his. Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief” (Hebrews 4:9-11). There’s a rest for God’s people. When you enter the rest of God, all your struggles will cease, your worries will be over and your confidence in God’s Word will soar beyond every limitation you’ve hitherto had.
The Scripture describes us—the new creation as partakers of God’s divine nature. This means we’re sharers, partners and participators of all that divinity encompasses. We’re entitled to enjoy and benefit from the immense treasures and attributes of God with the exclusion of nothing. Entering and living in His rest is one of such blessings we’ve been called to enjoy.
Don’t cheat yourself or allow anyone or circumstance cheat you out of the life you’re called to live. The way to live in God’s rest is living by faith in God’s Word. Follow God’s Word with diligence and apply it in all that you do. See yourself the way God sees you. Refuse to compromise the principles of God’s Word. That’s the secret of functioning from a position of rest and living a stress free life.
