Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come (John 16:13).
It’s common to hear people say, “The voice of the people is the voice of God,” or something like “the majority cannot be wrong.” As nice as these statements sounds, they are lies from the pit of hell. They can neither be substantiated by the scriptures nor have any known connection with the body of revelation of the truth of God’s Word.
Bible history records how the whole world was destroyed and only a family of eight—Noah and his household was saved. The reason being that Noah lived a life that was in accordance to what God prescribed! So if it is true that the majority cannot be wrong, then, God wouldn’t have destroyed everyone else (in Noah’s day), saving only Noah and his immediate family.
Learn to follow the Holy Spirit and not the voice of ‘the people.’ Learn to discern the voice of Spirit apart from the voice of men. It matters what you hear and who you follow in life. God doesn’t go by numbers, nor does He speak to favour the majority. He speaks in consonance with His written Word. The best thing you can do for yourself is to continually follow the Spirit of God in the direction He has given for your life.
No other personality in this life is worth following but the Holy Spirit. He’s our greatest friend and teacher, the One who guides us into all realities and makes God’s presence tangible to us.
Following the Holy Spirit means yielding yourself to Him through the Word of God. You cannot follow the Holy Spirit except you’re yielded to God’s Word and do what the Word says to do. This will reflect the beauty of God in you and help you live a more excellent life. You’ll find yourself making the best decisions and the right choices always. You’ll always do the right thing the first time, be at the right places at the right time, and live a life worthy of emulation.
Don’t be a crowd follower; be a follower of God’s Spirit. Be a Spirit-led man or woman.
Prayer
Dear Father, I thank you for giving me the precious Holy Spirit to be my guide, teacher, counsellor and comforter. I yield my spirit to Him to be led, instructed and directed in all my dealings today. As I do this, my entire life is transformed from glory to glory in Jesus’ mighty Name. Amen.
