Often times, Christians want to know how they can yield to the Holy Spirit and experience a deeper relationship with this awesome Person of the Godhead, the One sent alongside to go with them and help them. To yield to the Holy Spirit, you yield to His word, for He is the author of the Holy Scriptures.
The way you yield to someone is not by bowing your head or kneeling which are merely outward expressions. It’s by being obedient to the person and doing all he asks you to do willingly. Yielding to the Holy Spirit means you give yourself to what He tells you to do and follow His Word wholeheartedly. You’re not yielded to the Holy Spirit if you don’t listen to His word. Thus doing the Word of God, letting His Word come alive through you is the way to yield to the Spirit.
When the Word gains the mastery over your mind, you’ll find it easy to follow the instructions of the Spirit, and do what He tells you to do. The written Word of God and the Holy Spirit give witness to Jesus as the living Word. The more you let the Word of God dominate your mind, your decisions and your perceptions, the more the Holy Spirit controls your life. So the Holy Spirit controls and leads you through the Word.
If you don’t know the Word of God, it’ll be difficult for you to follow the leading of the Spirit of God. The best way to judge what you hear is through your knowledge of God’s Word. When you live according to the Word, your life will be in sync with the Spirit of God, and it’ll be easy to yield to Him, and do whatever He asks you to do.
Prayer
Dear Holy Spirit, I acknowledge you as the One who leads me in the way that I should go. You’re my Comforter and Helper, my Strengthener, Standby and Guide! I open my heart to you today to do in me and through me your good pleasure! Thank you for making God’s Word real to me and leading me in the path of life, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
