“Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light” (Colossians 1:12).
I want you to note that this verse of Scripture didn’t say God will make us, or is going to make us partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light. Rather, it says He “hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light.” “Us” in the opening scripture refers to those who are born again. God the Father has “made us meet,” that means qualified us to be partakers—sharers or co-owners of the inheritance. The Amplified Bible puts it beautifully: “Giving thanks to the Father, Who has qualified and made us fit to share the portion which is the inheritance of the saints (God’s holy people) in the Light.” Hallelujah!
You couldn’t qualify by yourself. Your good works or your own righteousness was not good enough to qualify you for the blessing. But God in His infinite mercy and divine magnanimity qualified you for the good life. Isaiah 64:6 refers to man’s righteousness as “filthy rags” before God. But God the Father, through the righteousness of His Son Jesus Christ has qualified you and set you apart for the life of glory.
What a marvel! It means you don’t have to try to be good enough for God. There’s no need to strive and work to merit His grace and mercy. All you need is to submit yourself to His righteousness— that’s your qualification (Romans 10:3). Now you’re qualified to inherit all the blessings of Abraham, and all the glorious and precious promises in the Word that have come to us through Christ. Prosperity is yours, healing and health are yours, success is yours; spiritual advancement and everything that’s required for your total well-being are all yours now.
You may never know what your inheritance in Christ really means until you get into the Word of God to discover your root and true identity. Make God’s Word priority in your life today, and you’ll discover more of the “…wonderful things that belong to those who live in the Kingdom of light” (Colossians 1:12 TLB), and live in them every day of your life.
Prayer
Dear heavenly Father, I thank you today for your gift of righteousness which has qualified me to participate in the inheritance of the saints in light. I declare that the blessings of Abraham are my present-hour possession. I experience prosperity, health and the life of peace today, in the Name of Jesus. Amen.
