Therefore be imitators of God [copy him and follow his example] as well-beloved children [imitate their father] (Ephesians 5:1; Amp)
The only reason the above scripture implores us to imitate God—our father is because we’re like Him! We’re created in His image and in His likeness; we have His nature, which gives us the ability to act like Him. This means we can actually copy Him; we can do things like Him. We can think, speak, act and live exactly as the Lord did while He physically walked the face of the earth. He was never defeated or disadvantaged; He couldn’t be! That’s the same life He’s given to us.
Talking about Jesus and us, the Bible says, ‘…as He is so are we in this world’ (1 John 4:17). We’ve been initiated into the same kind of life! We have his character, and the same essence of divinity, having become one with Him. That’s the big thing about Christianity—our oneness with the Lord!
Now, there’re folks who as a result of their ignorance of new creation realities claim it’s impossible to act like God or do things like Him. Such folks always quote the words of the prophet Isaiah: “Thus saith the Lord; My ways are not your ways, or my thoughts your thoughts. For as the heavens are higher above the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts” (Isaiah 55:8-9). This scripture doesn’t refer to the new creation, but to folks in the Old Testament, who lived under the old covenant.
When you were born again, you accepted God’s ways, and His life and nature of righteousness was imparted into your spirit. Consequently, His ways became your ways and His thoughts became your thoughts! No wonder the Bible says we have the mind of Christ (1Corintians 2:16). That means we now have the ability to think, live and do things like Him. Praise God!
Confession
Through the Word of God and the ministry of the Spirit, I’m being transfigured daily into the image of the Son of God! His life and nature of righteousness imparted into my spirit gives me the ability to live, act and talk like Him! And by demonstrating the character of the Spirit, I’m bringing men and women to the knowledge of Christ today. Amen.
