And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love… (1 John 4:16).
The Scripture above gives us a description of our heavenly father: He is love. He is not judgment, as many folks think; He’s a loving heavenly Father. God testified to His love for you in Jeremiah 31:3, when He said “Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.” I love the way the Message translation puts it, “I’ve never quit loving you and never will. Expect love, love, and more love!”
I urge you today to rest in God’s love. Quit all struggles and take advantage of God’s unfeigned and unconditional love for you. You may have lived such a terrible life and done so many wrong things as a Christian, the Lord is saying to you today, “rest in my love!” All you need do is repent and say, “Lord, forgive me.” Once you repent, He is quick to forgive because it is His nature to forgive.
The prodigal son’s father killed the best calf to celebrate his son’s return (Luke 5:21-23), an allegory depicting God as an ever forgiving and ever loving Father. He rejoices when he finds His lost child. If you’ve been out of fellowship with God, it’s time to come home. God is waiting to receive you into His everlasting arms of love. He’s not wielding a big stick to strike you for your wrongs; He already struck Jesus for your sake. All He expects from you now is that you rest in His love!
Let nothing separate you from God’s love; not even the sins you’ve committed. When you do something wrong and ask God for forgiveness, He receives you and establishes you in the right path. I’m ever so joyful to know how merciful God is. No matter how grievous a man’s sins are, God will still forgive and forget. There is a confident assurance in us that God never looks out for our faults, rather, He follows us with His tender mercies.
Having this kind of confidence in God’s love comes by acquaintance with Him. Get to know and understand the nature of your heavenly Father, and you’ll be joyful at all times in His presence. He doesn’t look at us to destroy us. Rather His love follows us everywhere we go; therefore rest in His love.
Prayer
Dear Father, I rejoice for the great love wherewith you’ve loved me, and I’m grateful for your grace and tender mercies that encompass me each day. I ask that today, you’ll help me through the power of your Spirit to comprehend the magnitude of your love, and cause me to take advantage of it, in the Name of Jesus. Amen.
